These incompetent things should be prosecuted, jailed and punished with extreme measures. If you have authority, your punishment should be extreme. Let's face it, we put these things there by either voting for horrible clowns or not voting. This system is a reflection of us.

People are not sent to prison there to be punished. Their imprisonment is the punishment and they should have facilities in prison to live comfortably and be able to improve their lives when they are released. By which I mean education and training.

Imagine daily life of US prisoners: no income, no private property, minimum food and water so that private jail contractors can fill their pockets with the rest of government funds, live under constant risks of sickness and death, have to do forced labour at the whims of warden...and once they are out, without viable education and ample job opportunity, they would just be trapped in a loop of jail->unemployment -> crime ->jail. Seems like slaves in all but name.

In my (European) country, there is a saying that if one goes to prison, he or she is "going to a cool/cold place" because many (if not most) prisons are traditionally stone buildings with 60cm walls, one is even a former castle, so it is really cooler in there during hot summers.

I won't lie, I have a very hard time feeling bad for prisoners being uncomfortable. (EDIT: lethally-hot conditions are legitimately bad, though.) Lack of air conditioning in prisons may be a problem, but the bigger problem is the overuse of prisons as a "social reform" tactic -- lots of people are in prison who shouldn't be, because they didn't hurt anyone, or they are stuck in an endless loop of going to prison because they can't pay simple fines.

2:02 did no one on the show notice how blind that pun was? While admitting that the society doesn't care about about prisons and the heat in them and that it's EQUIVALENT to torture, you are downplaying the actual torture of actually being boiled alive. I love this show and John, but this was tone deaf; even for a joke. Especially because it's a subject that isn't globally accepted or even acknowledged as fact and this level of carelessness contributes to normalizing animal torture.

Lake Butler Correctional in Florida is just as bad. No AC except for 2 fans. Also, not just the superficial conditions, the treatment of prisoners is inhumane. I was sent back to the pod twice before chow time and not allowed to eat because I was not wearing socks. The kicker: I wasn't issued socks because there weren't enough to go around and when I told the guard this, his response was: "Not my problem." Also, I hope you like cockroaches because they are EVERYWHERE. The best part in all this, I was sentenced to 18 months in prison in Marion County Fl. for violating probation because I couldn't afford $300 dollars in classes because I had just been released from jail and hadn't found a job yet. The system is broken and our elected leaders have no intention of fixing it because it's a license to print money that a select few are getting rich off of.

Wait wait ‘11 months for cashing a bad cheque’ What context justifies 11 months for that? If anything I'd expect to compensation from whoever gave me the cheque. I assume they didn't create the bad cheque that they then cashed since that would surely be fraud not ‘cashing a bad cheque’ and even then 11 months seems a bit steep.

So now you've let 2 innocent people die cause you've got a hard on for what you call 'justice'. Even if you think all murderers deserve torture (they don't and that makes you a bastard for thinking so) we have no guarantee that everyone in jail actually committed that crime. I recommend that any person thinking about moving to Texas NOT do so until they've completed a course in Texas History. See, it's easy to watch this and take from it that Texas doesn't air condition it's prisons because we don't care about prisoners basic human rights. That's not it at all. Prisoners in Texas (once they've been convicted and sentenced) are a COMMODITY. Just like the pigs that DO get air conditioning on Texas prison farms are a COMMODITY. The reason why the pigs get AC and the inmates don't: MORE PIGS die due to hear exhaustion than inmates. Texas loses more money on the Pig Commodity due to heat exhaustion death than it does on Inmate Commodity death for the same reason. That's why for some seemingly mysterious reason (and, I speak from experience), most COUNTY jails in Texas are fully climate controlled. They are actually often kept in the low 70's in the inmate pods. See prisoners in County jail awaiting sentencing ARE NOT YET COMMODITIES. Prisoners AWAITING trial can and do bring hefty lawsuit judgements against negligent City and County jails. Sooooo, it makes financial sense to take better care of their basic human rights at that level. The answer to the lack of air conditioning question as far as State Jails and Prisons in Texas run by TDJC is simple and two-fold. First: In Texas, for hundreds of years....we've expected our politicians, law enforcement and judges to be "Zero Tolerance No Mercy Hammer Tough" on crime. Climate controlling inmates is "Soft" on crime. Being percieved as soft on crime in a State-wide election will ruin a politician. Second: TDJC is a PUBLICLY TRADED FOR PROFIT MACHINE. PERIOD. Air Conditioning TDJC prisons doesn't make financial sense to the Good Ol Boys here. Yes, inmates die as a result of heat stroke. But, they don't die in large enough numbers to facilitate class action lawsuits with multi-million dollar judgments. So, in the minds of the elected Good 'Ol Boys (even the Democrats fall in line on this issue) WHY BOTHER? TDJC will NEVER air condition it's prisons unless the Federal Government forces them to. Guaranteed.

America commits genocidal acts and international rights abuses on a daily basis. Can't tell the difference between this country and any other well-known abusive country. What's worth preserving or even fighting for?

Exterminate the human race. Start with the bottom? Rather start with the top. This is obviously an intentional genocide. This is exactly what Canada did to their natives. It's intentional. It's genocide. Modern day genocide. We are condoning genocide.

@Wulfric Yes you moron. Those who are causing climate change aren't the teachers, the janitors, the doctors, the prisoners, or any of the other 99%. Punishing all of us for the crimes of the few is asinine.
